Easy Way to Loosen Stiff Curls

It happens to me all the time. Whenever I go to bed wearing bendy rollers (or flexi rods as they're called stateside), I wake up with a head full of stiff curls that look a lot like actress Crystal Reed's (pictured below at 4th annual Thirst Gala last night in Beverly Hills).

Even after I brush them out, I'm usually left with firm C-shaped curls, not the relaxed S-shape ringlets I envisioned (think Beyonce!) when I rolled my hair up the night before. Luckily, I recently found a way to fix it. Interested? Here goes.

To loosen tight curls, I simply turn on my shower and crank it up to a high temperature to steam up my bathroom. Five minutes later, I go in and do my makeup while I let the condensation do what it does best—mess up my hair, but in a good way! Yes, I have to continually wipe the mirror so I can actually see what I'm doing, but it's totally worth it. I don't lose any precious primping time, and all of that steamy heat helps magically release the tension in my hair. Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

When I spotted this little side-twisted hairstyle on Khloe Kardashian yesterday, I immediately checked Jen Atkin's Twitter feed to see if she had posted anything on it. And, what do you know, she had already put the look up on her Tumblr...

How To Get Wedding Hair Like Nicole Kidman's Rose-Shaped Bun

Step 1. Build up tons of texture. Sprinkle texturizing powder at your roots and create waves all over your head (in whatever direction), ideally using a tapered curling iron like the Chi Orbit Styler.

Five Step Get Nicole Kidman's Romantic Hairstyle

Step 1: Make your hair messy

Romantic hairstyles are easier to do and generally look better when you have some texture to work with. This means adding some messy waves into your hair if you need to.An easy way to do this is by applying styling mousse for extra hold and loosely braiding your hair into pigtails before blow-drying it. Next, let your hair loose and run your fingers through it to shake it up a little.

Step 2: add some volume

Step 4: make even more mess

Now it's time to add some more texture to the back of your head. At the bottom of your 'do, if there are any strands of hair still loose, twist them loosely towards the rest of your hair and pin messily in place with a bobby pin. You can always gently pull some strands out to do this with.Then, use your fingers to lightly mess up the back of your hair. Don't go to wild, you're after a romanticallt messy look, not a "dragged though a hedge backwards" kind of style.

Step 5: Add the finishing touches

Once you're satisfied with the back, use your fingers to slightly undo the loose bun you attached in step three. Wiggle it around as gently as you can, so as not to disturb the rest of your hair, pulling the odd strand out and leaving the odd section of hair looped in... if you know what we mean. Use the photos of Nicole as your guide and you should be fine.Feel free to tugg the ponytail (ish, thing?) and tighten the elastic if necessary. Step 1. Comb out the tangles in your hair.

Step 2. As if doing a half-do, separate a section of your hair from the rest. Do this at the point where you want your braid to start. A high French braid should start at the very top of your head.

Step 3. Divide the section into three equal pieces.

Step 4. Cross the far-right strand over the middle strand. Now, it has become the middle strand.

Step 5.Now, cross the far-left strand over the middle strand. Now, IT has become the middle strand. You'll continue doing this-- alternating left and right-- to make your braid.
